Taxi Fares in Dijon: How the Price Is Calculated

Fares set by the Côte-d'Or prefecture, the same for every licensed taxi

In France, taxi fares are regulated by the State and set each year by prefectural decree for each département. In Dijon and throughout the Côte-d'Or, prices are the same for all licensed taxis. The fare is not negotiable, and that protects you.

How the taximeter works

The certified taximeter calculates the price of your journey from the distance travelled and the time taken. Four kilometric tariffs apply depending on the type of journey:

Taximeter tariffs in Côte-d'Or and their conditions of application
Tariff Conditions of application
A Return journey, daytime, Monday to Saturday
B Return journey, night-time, Monday to Saturday; day & night, Sundays and public holidays
C One-way journey, daytime, Monday to Saturday
D One-way journey, night-time, Monday to Saturday; Sundays and public holidays

Base charge (prise en charge)

At the start of every journey, a fixed amount immediately appears on the meter. This is the "base charge", which pays for making the taxi available.

Waiting / stationary rate

When the taxi is stopped or crawling (traffic jam, waiting at the station or airport), the meter switches to the hourly rate, also set by the prefecture.

Official fare schedule

The exact fares in force (base charge amount, price per km for each tariff, hourly rate) are set annually by the Côte-d'Or Prefecture and available on its official website:

The price, before you go

I apply the prefectural fares, nothing more. Before the ride, I tell you which tariff applies to your trip and, if you wish, give you an estimate. The receipt details the full calculation.
